It is so widely known that people sometimes use the word “google” as a verb that means “to search for something on Google”. It was ruled in 2025 by the Justice Department alongside 17 other states that Google operates a monopoly in online advertising technology. Google has had criticism over issues such as aggressive tax avoidance, search neutrality, copyright, censorship of search results and content, and privacy.
